The Limbs 4 Kids program is an initiative of Limbs 4 Life, Australia’s peak organisation for amputees and persons living with limb difference. The Limbs 4 Kids program has been made possible through generous support from nib foundation.
The Limbs 4 Kids program will ensure that all Australian children and young people with limb difference, as well as all of those who care for them, receive access to information and connections.
Limbs 4 Life
Limbs 4 Life is Australia’s peak organisation for amputees, persons living with limb differences and the care givers that support them. Limbs 4 Life believes that no individual should go through the trauma of limb loss alone and should have access to an organisation that understands their circumstances, can arrange connections and provide up-to-date information.
Limbs 4 Life offers a range of programs and services that assist amputees, their families, their care givers and health care professionals. Limbs 4 Life was established in 2004 and has a key focus on the provision of peer support, information, magazines and publications, social and sporting activities and systemic advocacy.
The addition of the Limbs 4 Kids program under the Limbs 4 Life banner highlights the organisation’s dedication to deliver an inclusive service across all age groups.

Limbs 4 Life created the Limbs 4 Kids program to provide greater support to all Australian children and young people living with congenital or acquired limb differences. The Limbs 4 Kids program was also established to support all those who care for children and young people with limb differences; whether they are parents, carers, siblings, family members, professional healthcare providers, educators or community workers.
Limbs 4 Kids was originally trialled in Victoria between 2012 and 2014 (under the banner ‘Carers, Children and Youth Program’) and over that time it became apparent that this unique support was needed across Australia and not just in Victoria.
Limbs 4 Kids will deliver support through:
- this website and its Learning Centre
- the closed and moderated Limbs 4 Kids Facebook Group
- quarterly ‘Thrive’ magazine
- information fact sheets
- the training of parents and carers as Peer Support Volunteers willing to support other families in similar situations
- assisting in the establishment of local Support Groups
- conducting social and information events
- independent research conducted by Monash University.
